Psoriasis involves the skin and nails and affects 2-3% of Australians and can have an enormous impact on a person’s quality and enjoyment of life plus medical health. Without effective treatment this condition can be highly visible, uncomfortable, itchy and irritable and associated with a number of other medical problems including psoriatic arthritis.

There have been many advances in our knowledge and available treatments. Treatment options creams/gels, tablets, phototherapy and newer targeted biologic therapies. Biologic therapies are only available in Australia for people with severe chronic plaque psoriasis that has failed to adquately respond to our traditional treatments and/or when these have caused adverse toxicities. Biologic therapies include adalimumab, etanercept, infliximab, secukinumab and ustekinumab.
