Vascular laser is used to treat:

  • Broken Capillaries, veins and other blood vessel changes
  • Rosacea
  • Acne and Other Scars
  • Birth marks (vascular)
  • Sundamage
  • Spider veins, cherry angiomas and smaller leg veins
  • Onychomycosis (Fungal toe nail infection)

Lasers work by emitting a single wavelength of light in a focused synchronized pulse. By choosing different wavelengths, pulse duration, and energy along with skin temperature control they can be used to selectively target a specific skin change or condition. This allows the laser to destroy the lesion being treated while leaving the surrounding tissue unharmed. Adjusting these parameters allows a wide range of vascular lesions and conditions to be treated.

With the ability to now deliver sub-millisecond pulses our Nd:Yag can safely and comfortably be used to treat fungal toe nail infections (onychomycosis).

What happens during laser treatment?

Anesthetic creams and injections reduce laser benefits as they constrict blood vessels. You will be offered and can request analgesia for your laser treatment. If you plan to drive home after your treatment this will effect what we can offer you for pain relief.

You will wear safety eye wear during the procedure. A laser or a combination of lasers and light treatments will involve usually several passes of the laser over the treatment areas. This often gives a sensation like an elastic band slapping the skin combined with a warmth or heat sensation. Despite having your eyes protected you will see a flash of light due to light and laser travelling to the back of the eye through the skin. This is not dangerous but can be a little startling especially when having a treatment involving your face. You will be required to stay in the clinic for an extra 15min to cool and/or ice your skin.

After treatment a sunburn-like reaction is common and can last hours or 1-2 days. Redness and swelling is also common. Bruising can occur, along with scabbing or crusting. Blisters occur occasionally.
